NCOTY Programme

The National Chef of the Year (NCOTY) competition is recognised as one of the UK’s most challenging, rigorous and prestigious culinary awards. Designed to spotlight the very best professional chefs, the programme takes competitors on an inspiring, year‑long journey that tests creativity, technical skill and resilience at every stage.

The NCOTY programme begins each February, when online entries open and chefs from across the UK submit their menus, ideas and culinary vision. This early digital stage allows judges to assess entries on innovation, sustainability and seasonality which are core values that guide the competition throughout the year. Semi‑finalists get the chance to demonstrate their craft in live kitchens under pressure, showcasing techniques, flavour balance and the ability to deliver excellence consistently.

The journey culminates in the highly anticipated live cook-off, where finalists compete side‑by‑side in front of industry-leading judges. This high-energy event is followed by our VIP Awards evening, a glittering celebration attended by top chefs, media, and influential hospitality leaders. It’s where the new National Chef of the Year is crowned. This is an honour that has shaped many careers and inspired the next generation of culinary talent.

Across the year, the NCOTY programme not only identifies outstanding chefs but also supports them, offering visibility, advice and opportunities to push boundaries. It is a true celebration of the creativity, craft and skill that define the UK culinary scene.
